Use Case 1:
Pregnancy, Vaccination, and Surveillance
Scenario:
A pregnant woman in her second trimester lives in a rural community. SORMAS captures vaccination rates for influenza and COVID-19 in the region. However, pregnancy status is often under-reported, and specific data about maternal immunization uptake is missing.
Gender Considerations:
- Pregnant women may face vaccine hesitancy due to misinformation or lack of targeted health communication.
- Household responsibilities and mobility restrictions can limit access to vaccination centers.
- Failure to capture pregnancy data in surveillance systems leads to data gaps that hinder maternal health policy.
Recommended Strategy:
- Integrate and use the possibility to include pregnancy indicators into digital health records (SORMAS).
- Develop gender-sensitive dashboards showing immunization coverage in pregnant populations.
- Provide mobile vaccination units to reach women at home.
Follow the Step-for-Step-Guide below to see how to enter pregnancy information into SORMAS. You can try it out yourself and follow along in the SORMAS Demo. If you do so, please remember to only enter dummy data and no information about real people.
Additional scenario: Use Case 1b below.
