Handling multiple user roles and competing rights

User rights in SORMAS are additive. This means that if you assign multiple user roles to one account the account will have all rights that are granted from at least one role.

In case the roles have contradicting rights (e.g. one role grants access to samples and another one does not grant access to samples), the user will still be able to access the samples.

For this reason, best practice is to define the user roles as granular and small as possible and use multiple user roles for one account instead of creating one role that “can do everything”.
